MALIGAWILA BUDDHA STATUE
The site could be reached either from
the Monaragala Wellavvaya highway by turning at off at the Kumbukkana
junction and traversing 14 km or traversing 12 Km onthe Buttala -
Okkmpitiya road. The chronicle Mahavansha mentions that the
Buddha image in the site had been sculptured during the reign of King
Agbo and the Bodhisatva image during the reign of King Dappula. The
Buddha imge is the tallest in the world whie the largest Bodhisatva
image is located close to Maligawila. Apart from the two statues, the
premise is strewn with a cluster of ancient ruins.
